Kar Yan Tam Appointed AVPAA
Staff Association Elects New Chair
Three business leaders have been appointed to the University Court and Council. In addition, three former Court and Council Members have become Honorary Court Members.  
Mrs Susan M F Chow (Council Member)
Mrs Susan Chow Woo Mo Fong is an Executive Director of Hutchison Whampoa Limited. She also holds directorships of a number of the Group's subsidiaries. She comes from a family with a legal tradition. After receiving her professional qualifications as a solicitor in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, she joined the practice of Woo, Kwan, Lee & Lo. In 1985, she became a partner of the firm. She joined Hutchison Whampoa in 1993 as an Executive Director and was appointed Deputy Group Managing Director in 1998. She has responsibility for the Group's administration, legal affairs and business development. When Hutchison Telecommunications International Limited was listed on the New York Stock Exchange last year, Mrs Chow represented the Group and officiated at the traditional opening bell ringing ceremony.
Dr Patrick Y B Fung (Council Member)
Dr Patrick Fung Yuk Bun is Chairman and Chief Executive of Wing Hang Bank Limited. Dr Fung received his Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Toronto in 1973. He then joined the Irving Trust Company in New York. In 1976, he returned to Hong Kong and joined the Wing Hang Bank, which was founded by his father the late Mr Y K Fung. He has made significant contributions to the Bank's business development, including the public offering of the Bank's shares on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in 1993 and the acquisition of Chekiang First Bank in 2003. Dr Fung is also devoted to his community work and has assumed various public duties, including Chairman of the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board, Chairman of the University of Toronto (Hong Kong) Foundation, and Court Member of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Dr Annie S C Wu, SBS, JP (Court Member)
Dr Annie Wu Suk Ching is a pioneer of the Chinese-Hong Kong air catering industry. In 1980, she established the first joint venture company in Mainland China, namely Beijing Air Catering Limited. Today, she is the Vice-Chairman or Managing Director of more than 15 joint venture air catering and services companies in the Mainland. Dr Wu has a strong commitment to the community, and is particularly involved with women's issues and the education and development of young people. She is one of the 11 founders of the Hong Kong Federation of Women, and Chairman of The Chinese History and Culture Educational Foundation For Youth and the Hong Kong Soong Ching Ling Children's Foundation Limited. Dr Wu is now a Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. She received the HKSAR's Silver Bauhinia Star in 1999.
