The UST Putonghua Debating Team has won
the Hong Kong Joint Tertiary Institutions Putonghua
Debating Competition for the second consecutive year.
The 2004 event, hosted by RTHK and held
on 21 November, saw UST beat the Chinese University
of Hong Kong in a tough final.
Topics
for debate included private consortia participation
in development of the West Kowloon Cultural District,
and the Best Debater was An Nan (ELEC) who scored highest
in three rounds of competition.
Having won the Hong
Kong crown, the team now head to Shanghai for the prestigious
National Invitational Debating Competition from 6 to
11 December. Then, in summer 2005, the team travel to
Singapore to participate in the International Debating
Conference of Tertiary Institutions, regarded as the
world cup of Chinese-language competitive debate. They
will become only the third local university team ever
to represent Hong Kong in this event. |
